Patient stories

Every patient story is different. From the day of their first seizure, to the day of diagnosis, through the months (sometimes even years) of treatment optimisation, every patient and parent will have different experiences that can be influenced heavily by you, their prescribing doctor.

Miquel’s story

Miquel is not a patient who has been treated with Epidyolex.

Battling Dravet syndrome (DS), one day at a time

For many patients, a diagnosis of DS drains away any hope for a normal life. This was no different for Miquel and his family, who had their lives turned upside down when he was diagnosed with DS.

I realised that my life had changed completely. I could only dedicate myself to my son, to be in hospitals.

Miquel’s mother, Natalie, describes the day of his first seizure and how it led to a near-death experience in the ambulance on the way to hospital: “He got out of the ambulance and said ‘Your son has entered cardiorespiratory arrest’. And I remember that, jeez, the entire world crumbled in on me.”

Luckily, with lots of love and support from his family, Miquel’s story did not end there. Miquel is happy and living life to his maximum. However, his family always fear the next seizure that will come and hope for a brighter future…

Every birthday I wish for my brother to get well and for everyone to have good health.

With new treatment options comes renewed hope for a more normal life. For patients like Miquel with limited options, what could you do differently to change their lives?
